Photograph of the traditional home of Clan MacAlpine
Dunstaffnage, near Oban, in Argyll, Scotland was the traditional home of Clan MacAlpine - Dunstaffnage Castle, to the left, was constructed in later years by the MacDougals. Used with permission. Copyright Donald Buchanan, ScottishPanoramic.

The Dupplin Cross - Erected by King Kenneth MacAlpin
Tradition has held that this Celtic cross was erected by King Kenneth MacAlpin to mark his military power or as an apt memorial to King Constantine, a predecessor who also, though only briefly, ruled over the Picts and the Scots simultaneously. The Dupplin Cross, originally located in a commanding position on a hillside overlooking King Kenneth's Royal Palace at Forteviot in Perthshire and which could be seen from the Palace, has undergone restorative work and is currently the centerpiece of the National Museum of Scotland. It is scheduled to be returned to Perthshire in the coming year.
